This is a Herend Apponyi Green trinket tray, also called the Chinese Bouquet motif, made in 1960. It measures 1.5 inches (3.75 cm) tall and 5.5 inches (13.75 cm) wide and long, with a diameter of about 5.5 inches (13.75 cm). The shallow, scalloped form shows a hand‑painted green bouquet in the center and a leafy border, finished with a neat band of gold along the rim and small gold blossoms. In near mint condition, the glaze is glossy and the gilding looks fresh, with no chips or hairlines to note. At roughly 66 years old, it’s a true mid‑century vintage piece that feels refined yet easy to use as a catchall for jewelry or keys.
Herend, founded in 1826 in Hungary, is known for fully hand‑painted, hard‑paste porcelain that’s kiln‑fired multiple times and edged with 24k gold. The Apponyi, or Chinese Bouquet, pattern appeared in the 1930s for Count Albert Apponyi as a simplified take on the older Fleurs des Indes design, inspired by Asian flower baskets. The green version—often marked AV—is the classic colorway. Pieces carry the blue Herend shield backstamp and often a painter’s number. Pre‑1970 examples like this tray are collectible because fewer were produced than today’s runs, and near‑mint condition with crisp gilding makes it a quietly rare, dependable keeper.
