This small oval dish is a Herend Apponyi Green ring tray from around 1950. At 1 inch high, 2.5 inches wide, and 3 inches long, it’s a tidy bedside or vanity catchall. The white porcelain shows the Apponyi green bouquet in the center, a leafy border, and hand-applied gold trim. It’s in Near Mint condition with bright color and clean gilding, no chips or cracks—just light, careful use for a piece about 76 years old. The shallow well keeps rings or earrings safe, and its petite footprint makes an easy, elegant accent on a dresser.
Herend, Hungary’s renowned porcelain maker, was founded in 1826 and rose to fame after the 1851 Great Exhibition, earning royal clients. Every item is hand painted and fired multiple times; most bear the blue Herend shield and painter’s marks underneath. The Apponyi pattern—also called Chinese Bouquet—was created at Count Albert Apponyi’s request as a simplified take on Herend’s earlier Indian Basket motif. The green version is the classic and pairs with 24k gold edges. While the design is still produced, mid-century ring trays were made in smaller numbers, so examples of this size and in Near Mint shape are genuinely vintage and getting harder to find.
