This is a Bohemia vintage cobalt blue cut crystal glass decanter from around 1960, standing 14 inches tall with a 4.5-inch diameter. The rich cobalt overlay has been hand cut to clear in long vertical panels and a crosshatch diamond pattern, finishing in a multi-faceted base and a matching teardrop stopper. It’s elegant barware with real presence—weighty in the hand, bright in the light, and perfect for whiskey, port, or liqueurs. In near mint condition and complete with its original stopper, it’s a mid‑century piece that’s roughly 66 years old, the kind of vintage find that doesn’t turn up every day, especially in this bold blue.
Bohemia “crystal” refers to fine glass made in the historic Czech/Bohemian region, a glassmaking center since the 13th century. By the 1950s–60s, many factories exported under the Bohemia Crystal name, known for 24% lead crystal, brilliant ring, and precise hand cutting. Cobalt overlay cut‑to‑clear work—like you see here—was a showpiece skill, prized for its deep color and sharp contrast. Mid‑century exports often carried foil stickers reading “Bohemia Crystal Made in Czechoslovakia.” Patterns varied by workshop, but lattice diamonds, panel cuts, and star bases were classics. Cobalt examples from this era are scarcer than clear, and near mint condition makes this one especially appealing to collectors and everyday hosts alike.
