This is a Marble Inlay Floral Plate, a decorative pietra dura stone trivet made around 1960. Carved from white marble with an openwork rim and a scalloped edge, it features a vivid floral spray inlaid with blue, green, orange, and black hardstones. It measures 7 inches in diameter, 1 inch tall, and is Near Mint—clean polish, tight inlay, crisp carving. At 66 years old, it’s firmly vintage and a lovely size for display on a stand or for gentle trivet duty under a teapot or small serving dish safely at home.
Pieces like this rarely carry a brand; they come from the renowned Agra marble inlay tradition in India, also called parchin kari, the same technique celebrated at the Taj Mahal. Artisans hand-chisel shallow cavities in Makrana-style marble, then saw and fit tiny stone petals—often lapis, malachite, onyx, and carnelian—polishing everything flush. Many were produced for high-quality export in the 1950s and 60s, but Near Mint examples with intact lattice carving are getting harder to find. Practical facts: real marble feels cool and heavy; edges may show faint hand-tool marks; avoid acids and abrasive cleaners; wipe with mild soap; for furniture safety, add felt pads if used as a trivet.
