This is a Bohemian handcut crystal vase in a rich amethyst purple, made around 1970 and kept in near mint condition. The glass has a clear core with a colored overlay that’s been deeply wheel‑cut to reveal bright, sparkling patterns—pinwheels, fans, and cross‑hatching that catch the light from every angle. It feels weighty in the hand, with a polished rim and a thick, stable base, the kind of piece that gives that satisfying ring when gently tapped. I don’t see chips or cracks, just the faintest shelf rub underneath from careful display. It’s a small showpiece that works as a bud vase or simply as a jewel‑toned accent on a shelf or desk, and its age gives it that true vintage charm.
Bohemian crystal comes from the historic glassmaking region of today’s Czech Republic, known for brilliant, leaded glass and hand cutting. Makers there perfected cut‑to‑clear overlays in the 19th century, and the craft continued through the 1970s export era of Czechoslovakia. Pieces in amethyst are scarcer than the familiar ruby or cobalt, so this color is a nice find. At roughly 55 years old, it’s solidly vintage and collectible. Hand wash and avoid temperature changes to keep it sparkling.
