This delicate little espresso cup and saucer set is a real treasure from the past, dating back to around 1940. It’s a Herend Apponyi Purpur Moccha Espresso Cup and Saucer, hand painted in Hungary. The white porcelain is beautifully adorned with a rich, deep pink (purpur) floral design and finished off with elegant touches of gold around the rim and handle, making it look both charming and luxurious. Even though it’s over 80 years old, this particular set is in near mint condition, meaning there are hardly any signs of wear or age, which is quite rare for something this old. The cup stands about 2 inches tall, and the saucer measures roughly 4.5 inches across, making it perfect for those special moments when you want to enjoy your coffee in style.
Herend is a name that stands out in the world of fine porcelain. The company was founded in Hungary back in 1826, and it’s known all over the globe for its incredibly detailed, hand painted designs. The Apponyi pattern, also called the “Chinese Bouquet,” was first created in the 1930s and quickly became a favorite, thanks to its fresh take on traditional floral motifs. Each piece is unique because it’s painted by hand, which means no two sets are ever exactly the same. Collectors and lovers of vintage porcelain search high and low for pieces like this, especially in such good condition, making them both a beautiful and rare addition to any home. If you come across one of these, it’s not just a cup and saucer – it’s a little piece of history right in your kitchen.
