This is a Herend large trinket box, a three‑footed bonbonniere in the Queen Victoria pattern. Made in 1960, it’s about 66 years old and sits solidly in the true vintage camp. The domed lid is hand‑painted with bold peonies and butterflies, ringed with scalloped gold, and the round body rests on three pale‑green scroll feet. It measures about 4 inches high and 4.5 by 4.5 inches across, a handy size for rings, candies, or small keepsakes. The colors look bright and the gilding crisp, matching its Near Mint condition—exactly what collectors hope to find in mid‑century Herend porcelain.
Herend, the Hungarian porcelain house founded in 1826, is known for fully hand‑painted, kiln‑fired art pieces. The Queen Victoria (often marked VBO) pattern dates to 1851, when Herend exhibited it in London and Queen Victoria ordered a service; its butterflies and flowers draw on East Asian motifs and are finished with real gold accents. Because each piece is painted by an artist, subtle variations make every box unique. Three‑footed bonbonnieres in this pattern aren’t common on today’s market, and examples from around 1960 in such clean shape are sought after by Herend fans and anyone who likes practical, well‑made vintage decor.
