This is a Herend Queen Victoria elegant vase from around 1970, hand painted on fine white porcelain with bright peonies, green leaves, and fluttering butterflies. It stands 7.5 inches tall (18.75 cm) with a rounded 3.5 inch diameter (8.75 cm), and a flared, scalloped mouth trimmed in gold, echoed by a thin gold line at the foot. The colors are crisp and glossy, and the gilding is clean, showing Near Mint care with only the lightest signs of handling. At roughly 56 years old, it’s firmly vintage, a graceful display piece that’s small enough for a mantel yet striking on a side table.
Herend is a Hungarian porcelain house founded in 1826, celebrated for meticulous, fully hand‑painted work and 24k gold accents fired to a durable glaze. The Queen Victoria pattern debuted at London’s Great Exhibition in 1851, where Queen Victoria purchased a service, giving the design its name. The motif mixes butterflies and blooming flowers in cheerful, saturated colors; each piece is decorated freehand, so no two are identical. While Herend still produces Queen Victoria today, tidy 1970s examples in Near Mint condition are less common, making this vase a collectible, approachable slice of classic European craftsmanship and charm.
