This two-handled porcelain bowl is a cheerful little showpiece. Hand-painted butterflies float over bright garden blooms, all framed by a fresh green border and finished with delicate gilding. The handles have a gentle twist that feels good in the hand, and the scalloped rim gives the whole piece a soft, old-world look. Made in 1970 and kept in near mint shape, the glaze is glossy and the colors are still lively, with only the lightest signs of age you’d expect from careful display. It’s the kind of bowl that works for nuts or candies, yet also stands on its own as a pretty accent.
Herend is Hungary’s famed porcelain house, founded in 1826 and celebrated for hand-painted tableware. The Queen Victoria pattern is its signature. Shown at London’s Great Exhibition in 1851, it caught Queen Victoria’s eye, and the name stuck. The design blends European shapes with an Asian feel: butterflies, peonies, and leafy branches, all outlined and touched with gold. The Green Border version keeps the look fresh and more playful. Every piece is painted by a single artist and fired multiple times, so colors stay crisp. Your 1970 example carries that tradition, and no two bowls are alike.
