This Herend trinket tray, made in 1970 and kept in Near Mint condition, is a charming little catchall. The scalloped white porcelain frames the Apponyi Raspberry pattern: a vivid pink floral spray at center, a matching leafy border, and hand-applied gold edging with tiny rosettes. The glaze is bright and clean, the colors lively, and the gilding crisp with practically no wear. It sits flat and feels refined yet sturdy in the hand. Ideal on a nightstand for rings, on a vanity for earrings, or by the door for keys, it adds an elegant pop of color to daily life.
Herend has made fine porcelain in Hungary since 1826, earning royal and everyday fans for pieces that are fully handmade and hand-painted. The Apponyi pattern, also called Chinese Bouquet, evolved from the older Indian Basket motif and took its name from Count Albert Apponyi, who popularized a simplified floral. Raspberry is one of the most collected colorways, joined by green, blue, and orange. Artisans paint each petal by hand, then add 24k gold and fire the piece multiple times for a deep, durable shine. Genuine examples show the Herend shield mark and a painter’s number, and mix seamlessly across decades.
