This hand-painted porcelain wren from Herend is a little songbird captured mid-perch. Made in 1970, it shows off a glossy glaze that makes the warm browns, creamy chest, and soft green tones glow, with a flash of coral at the cheek and a bright eye ring. The modeling is crisp—the tiny claws wrap the stump, feathers overlap naturally, and the tail flicks upward like a real wren ready to chatter. It’s in near mint condition, with clean edges, strong color, and a smooth finish that catches the light. A charming, nature-forward piece that sits nicely on a mantel, shelf, or desk.
Herend, founded in 1826 in Hungary, is famed for hard‑paste porcelain shaped and painted entirely by hand. Beyond its famous Queen Victoria and Rothschild Bird tableware, the workshop also makes lifelike animal and bird figures like this one, using multiple firings and overglaze enamels for saturated color and sheen. No two are exactly alike—brushwork and shading vary slightly, which collectors love. Pieces from the late mid‑century era, like this 1970 example, are prized for their craftsmanship and quality during a time of limited production. To keep it happy, dust gently, avoid harsh cleaners, and display away from strong sun.
