This is a Vintage Polar Bear Porcelain Figurine by Aquincum from around 1970, standing about 8 inches tall and roughly 6 inches wide by 6 inches long. The bear sits back on one hip with its front paws lifted, a smooth, glossy white body touched with pale mint shading and neat brown claw tips. It’s in near mint condition, so the glaze still shines and the details look crisp, with only the faintest signs of age from normal display. At about 56 years old, it’s solidly vintage, and this larger pose is harder to find than the small desk mascots from the same era.
Aquincum was a Budapest, Hungary porcelain workshop best known in the mid to late 20th century for lively animal figures with a clean, modern feel. Pieces were slip-cast in fine porcelain, then hand-finished and hand-painted before a glaze firing, so each one shows studio character. Look for the Aquincum Hungary backstamp and, on some examples, a model number. Collectors like the playful motion and soft shading used in the 1960s–1970s lines, which were produced in smaller runs than mass-market brands. Keep it dusted with a soft cloth, and avoid abrasives or hot water to preserve shine.
