This is a Zsolnay Eosin porcelain figurine called Longing, an Art Nouveau–style female nude in a shimmering blue glaze. Made around 1970, it stands 9.5 inches tall (23.75 cm) and measures 4.5 by 4.5 inches at the base (11.25 x 11.25 cm). The figure kneels with arms lifted behind the head, all smooth curves and a calm, dreamy pose. The eosin finish catches the light with a soft, watery sheen. Condition is near mint, with no chips or cracks noted. At roughly 56 years old, it’s firmly vintage rather than antique, and examples this clean are not common.
Zsolnay, founded in 1853 in Pécs, Hungary, is celebrated for its eosin glaze, a metallic, iridescent surface perfected in the 1890s. By 1970 the factory was revisiting earlier Art Nouveau themes, so pieces like Longing blend flowing lines with mid‑century production. Collectors watch for strong color and marks like the five‑tower shield to confirm authenticity. Blue eosin is seen less often than green‑gold, which adds appeal. Compared with pre‑World War I masterpieces, 1970 examples are more approachable yet still hand‑finished and well made. In today’s market they’re considered scarce rather than truly rare, with value driven by glaze quality and condition overall.
